Mr Mark Delf
I have been teaching for 16 years and I currently hold the position of Assistant Headteacher in a large comprehensive secondary school in East London, where I oversee Post-16 provision. Some specific areas of my role include oversight of academic progress and pastoral wellbeing of students, careers advice and guidance, and liaising with seven other local schools where I chair a working party of colleagues across the borough with a view to sharing good practice and raising standards of provision at post-16.
My subject background is Psychology and Social Science, so I have a keen interest in the promotion of good mental health and an awareness of how structural issues at both a local and national level can impact on student progress and wellbeing such as; the impact of relative poverty, the effective management of school funding and the challenge raised by changes in educational policy.
Being within education, albeit teaching at the ‘other end‘ of the education spectrum, means I am well placed to understand both the great pressures and rewards that are integral to the teaching profession. I was honoured to be asked to be a member of the Local Advisory Board for Magna Carta at its inception, as my son is currently in Swallows class. I therefore have a very personal vested interest in helping Magna Carta develop into an outstanding provider.
